This is a very good sounding, easy playing Hohner HW-640 maple bodied, solid spruce top dreadnought acoustic guitar with a aftermarket Fishman Acoustic Natural 1 pre-amp installed. This guitar is very playable, structurally solid, with die cast tuners. The headstock logo and the paper label inside have been removed. But it completely matches my personal HW-640 NPT. It is a good fully functional starter guitar. The guitar has a few nicks and scuffs in the finish. I did repair the bridge and nicks in the finish. See below. This is a higher end beginners guitar that probably cost $250-275 when new with all items and a simple case, Im guessing. Before the Fishman pre-amp was installed. Poly case. All the hinges, closing latches and handle are in good condition. No smells or odors. Made in Korea. Do a little advance homework, Google Hohner HW-640 and look over other information and reviews on this guitar. The top is solid spruce, the sides and back are a maple laminate inside and out. The neck is a maple specie. String action at the 12th fret is slightly over the thickness of a nickel. It plays real smooth. There is an unknown stain (?) in the finish around the tail piece pre-amp port. The neck is straight and the rosewood fingerboard is in good condition. The frets are good. Truss rod works perfectly. The neck/body joint and all internal bracing is solid. The bridge, and bridge pins are tight. Tuners are die cast models, smooth and tight. The strings are new, Ernie Ball Lights, .052 - .011s. I polished the frets, cleaned and re-conditioned the fingerboard and bridge. Shes been set up and is ready to play. *****repairs******** When I purchased the guitar a previous owner had added after market Fishman Acoustic Matrix 1 pre amp, end pin style in place of the end pin strap button. Then at some point the straight line pickup was slipped out of the bridge and was left loose in the body. The saddle slot was modified to a have a split saddle configuration. This is how I bought it. The intonation was off. I removed the split saddle pieces, routed out the bridge to accept a new rosewood filler piece. Then returned it to a straight line bridge configuration and reinstalled the Fishman pickup properly. Its not a completely invisible repair, but the bridge and new bone saddle are in proper geometry with the body. There was about a 3 length of the back that was loose from the side. I reglued it with Titebond Original. A solid functional repair. I repaired a couple of nicks and stabilized the chips in the finish. Again, not invisible but functional. IF IT IS STILL LISTED, ITS STILL FOR SALE ****************** The finish is in good overall condition. There are a couple of nicks and scuffs appropriate to a 20+ year old guitar. No odors or smells. Take the time to come play this and you will appreciate how well it sounds and plays. This is the only way to properly evaluate the guitar. If you have a friend who plays well, bring them along to test drive it for you if needed. Get an immediate second opinion from your friend. A very good guitar to learn on. Definitely a large step up from many entry level guitars. This should take the guitar out of the learning equation if youre just getting started. Or if you are looking to upgrade from an lower entry level unit, or just have as a good second for friends to play. I will respond to all emails that reference questions or requests.
